Pink Carnations

Valentine's Day celebrations were rampant at school today!

My first grade daughter came home with two pink carnations. They were given to her by her "Valentine". He is in third grade.

She was very casual talking about this young boy. Deep inside I was very proud of her general unexcitement over having a boy bestow such a gift on Valentine's Day (I would have done anything to have such attention at that age).

She told him she was going to give the flowers to her "Mama". The little boy said that was fine (smart kid!).

He apparently asked her if he could come over our house for cake and ice cream. According to her, she replied that she really didn't know if we had cake and ice cream.

It is all very sweet but yet I can't help but feel a little unsettled. She IS only 6. And did I mention that I saw them skating together at the school skating party on Monday?

AAAHHHHH to be young again. In no time, she will soon become jaded like the rest of us....

Happy Birthday d!

Today is d’s 9th birthday. It also marks the end of a three day celebration.

Saturday we had family over for birthday cake. He also rented two games of his choice for the Wii.

Sunday we took him to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for a day with a dolphin.

And then today, chocolate covered donut for breakfast, brownie with lunch and steak dinner at a nice restaurant (kids eat free on Tuesdays).

I know this sounds cliché but I just can’t believe how big he is getting.

I don’t feel that I have grown older. Yet my little d nugget in the “Pooh” cap is now a responsible and charismatic 9 year old.

I love you d. Happy Birthday!
